WELCOME TO MRS. BERNADETTE M. RICHARDS’ MUSIC CLASS
In music, students are taught through differentiating learning and instruction. Music is a subject in which students are on different levels, have different musical talents and abilities, and come from different cultures and musical backgrounds. Each unit plan and/or lesson plan is designed to divide into multiple learning sections to meet the needs of every student regardless of their learning ability and musical background. Students are taught through content, process, product, and learning environment.
Content: musical terms and vocabulary that is applied to every lesson.
Process: Combination of First, teacher to student. Second, is an open discussion of student to student. Then we break into smaller groups and peer teaching.
Product: Putting all the vocabulary words together along with musical terms and definitions.
We create rhythmic/melodic dictations to then use to compose, play, or sing.
Learning Environment: Students may sit wherever they feel is the most comfortable location in the room for them to work. Students can select their seats and their location. Being comfortable with your surroundings in a classroom promotes a positive learning environment.
Students dance and use creative movement throughout the lesson to have a chance to move out of their seats and move around. Movement promotes a happy and healthy learning environment. This environment gives the students an academic break and a chance to refocus on the task at hand. Students are given this academic break every 7-10 minutes. I find this keeps them on task throughout the entire period and a student is more successful when given the academic breaks.
In music class I cover singing, dancing, playing an instrument and group discussions on various musicians/bands/theatre to address the interest of all the students. This way music class isn’t just focused on one area and will address all student needs, interest, and learning levels.

Class Summary
Music stimulates young imaginations, challenges perceptions, and develops creative and analytical skills. Involvement in the arts encourages students to understand music in context and the skills and techniques used to become a musician. Music is a supporting factor in the development of an inquiring and empathetic world view. Arts challenge and enrich personal identity and builds awareness of the aesthetic in a real-world context. Students will learn through a Christ centered classroom and a church music centered curriculum. Students will be encouraged to strive towards a stronger spiritual sense as well as academic.
